This is the image for the news article titled World Read Aloud Day @ IMMSFor 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has celebrated the power of reading aloud and bringing people together through the shared connection of reading.  This global effort is recognized annually in over 173 countries and right here at Irma Marsh Middle School.

This year, World Read Aloud Day was held on February 2, 2022.  The students of Irma Marsh Middle School participated by virtually visiting with three middle-grade authors, Rebecca Balcarcel author of The Other Half of Happy and Shine On, Luz Véliz!, Chris Baron, author of  All of Me and The Magical Imperfect, and Josh Roberts, author of The Witches of Willow Cove.

These authors read from their books, shared stories, talked about what inspires their writing, and recommended favorite books to read.  They also took questions from our intrigued IMMS students who asked interesting, thoughtful, and creative questions.

The best part of the whole day was hearing back from author Rebecca Balcarcel who invited IMMS to join the Las Musas Book Club!  The mission of the Las Musas Book Club is to foster a love of reading diverse stories by Latinx authors.  After reading each novel, we’ll have a special question & answer virtual visits with that author.  This is such an exciting opportunity for the students of IMMS!
