This is the image for the news article titled Girls Track: Meet of ChampionsWe were able to represent Irma Marsh Middle School with ten girls at the Meet of Champions this 2022 Season! Our 7th grade track team exceeded our expectations this year by qualifying all of our relay teams for the Big 5 Meet of Champions.  At the Zone Meet they took second place in the 4x100, 4x200 and the 4x400 finishing only behind Argyle in all three of these events.  They ran their fastest time of the year in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.  They overcame adversity at the Meet of Champions by having to run without one of their teammates who came down with the flu two days before the meet and still ran their second fastest time in all three relays with an alternate in all of these races.  The relay teams consisted of Abigail B, Melany R, Patricia G, Samantha P and alternates – Sara C and Diana G.  Our distance girls also stepped it up and were competitive at several meets and had a strong showing.  1600 and 2400 meter runners Camila F, Samantha G and Jiselle D worked well together all season pacing and pushing each other each meet to get better.  The field events also did very well this year and we had a girl place in the top six at every single meet through our zone meet.  Standouts in our field events were Brianna Q (shot/discus), Johanna A (shot/discus), Melany R (long jump), Samantha P (long/triple jump).  Hurdlers this year also did very well and placed in the top six at all the meets through the zone meet.  7th grade hurdlers this year were Sara C, Dominic N, and Camila S.  It was a great season and they are already working hard in off season and looking forward to cross country!

8th grade track qualified six girls for the Meet of Champions.  Alexa R in the 200 meters (finished 5th  27.93 at the MOC) and 400 meters (finished 5th at the MOC 1:05.19).  Alexa R set the new school record in the 200 meters AFTER she ran the 400 meters with a very respectable time.  She only had 20 minutes to rest before having to return to the track to run the 200 meters finals and ran her best time of the year and setting the new IMMS 200 meters record from 1997.  Alexa’s leadership and determination was a driving force for this team and helped set the example for the 7th grade team of what it means to really compete.
Jaquleine A in the Discus ( distance 71’04 and placed 4th at MOC).  She also placed 2nd at the Zone Meet with a throw of 76 feet.

Our 8th grade 4x400 meter relay qualified for the Meet of Champions by finished 4th at zone and ran at the Meet of Champions with team members Joselyn D, Kiley S, Mariana R, Victoria F (finished 8th at MOC). We are very proud of the effort and example of sportsmanship this Irma Marsh Track Team showed this year.  They never quit, worked hard, and did every thing the coaches could ask of them.
