Backpack Information

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Recently, you should have received a message regarding the 2018-2019 school year changes as it relates to school backpacks in order to enhance safety and security at Castleberry ISD. We truly appreciate the messages sent to us in support of the changes, and we look forward in fostering our partnership with parents and guardians as we strive to improve each year on our safety and security measures within each campus. We would like to provide you with more details as you purchase a new backpack for the upcoming school year.

Pre-K to 12th grade students must have clear or mesh backpacks. We recommend you purchase the backpack made of PVC. We also recommend that you purchase a backpack with straps and a handle sown on the back of backpack. Below are some examples of acceptable backpacks.

Two backpacks a mesh backpack on the left and a clear plastic backpack on the right.

Castleberry ISD's first priority is student safety. We recognize that the recent announcement regarding transparent backpacks may have come unexpectedly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are acting in the best interest of our students based off of recent developments in our government, specifically, announcements made by Governor Greg Abbott and the proposed School Safety Plan.

We are committed to making these necessary changes as hassle free for our families as possible. In that spirit, elementary students will be able to purchase backpacks meeting these requirements along with school supplies for only $15 during on-site registration. Middle and High School families will be able to purchase mesh backpacks meeting these requirements from their campus for $8 during on-site registration as well. If you do not wish to purchase a backpack from the school, but are having trouble finding one we recommend using amazon.com.

We also realize that many of you may have questions or concerns regarding the new backpack rules. We have published a New Backpack Rules page on our website including a FAQ section to answer many of the common questions we have received. You can find more information regarding the upcoming school year, such as school supplies, as well as any updates at our Back to School page. Thank you for your support and understanding.
