Ms. Mareka Austin has served as the Secondary Math Curriculum Coordinator here in Castleberry Independent School District for the past two years. She has used data to improve content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.


She obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Educational Leadership from the Dallas Baptist University. She successfully taught 7th and 8th grade math for several years. Her leadership roles consist of two years as Math Department Chair, where she led a team of 9 teachers to achieving the highest math scores on their campus. After teaching, she became the assistant pricnipal where she coached about 50 teachers over a 3-year time frame. During this time, she also served as teh PBIS coordinator for a campus of over 200 teachers and 3,500 students. Subsequently, she received the Champion for Students Award from the Area Superintendent in Arlington ISD. Ms. Austin was selected as a mentor teacher for the U-TEACH program, a science and mathematics secondary teacher preparation program at the University of Texas at Arlington. Due to her achievements as a mentor teacher, she was also selected as a GK-MAVS (Mathematically Aligned Vertical Strands) mentor teacher for fellows receiving their doctorate in math. She has led several professional learning opportunities for educators including, presenting for three years at CAMT- Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teachers (2013, 2017, 2018) and TABSE- Texas Alliance for Black School Educators (2018).


She discovered her passion for working with students over 17 years ago and served in some capacity from that time. In 2008, Ms. Austin co-founded Youth Equipped to Prosper, a nonprofit scholarship and leadership development program, designed to create positive experience and provide resources that inspire students to achieve greatness. She is currently developing and branding the C.H.O.I.C.E.S Leadership Development Curriculum, Choosing How Often I Can Experience Success, to expand the scope of YEP's influence.


Ms. Austin will continue her work as an advocate for all students because she strongly believes that all students can experience success when equipped with the necessary support. Ms. Austin is driven by her commitment to build positive relationships and to equip educators to educate, encourage, and empower every student every day!
