Mr. Derrick Spurlock

Mr. Derrick Spurlock, the new principal at Irma Marsh Middle School, is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University. He has a degree in English Language Arts and Physical Education and earned his master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. He began his career as a Language Arts teacher and coach in Dallas ISD.

Mr. Spurlock has a wealth of experience with diverse student populations. He was a two time teacher of the year at Hood Middle School in Dallas. Mr. Spurlock was an AVID teacher, trainer, district coordinator, and is a national staff developer. The AVID program’s focus is ensuring that schools support students with the right tools to close the achievement gap to be college and success ready.

He has three years of district level administrative experience, two years’ experience as an associate principal, and four years of experience as a middle school principal. Mr. Spurlock believes in consensus building, coaching teachers, and helpings students and staff build a growth mindset.

We are looking forward to successful years with Mr. Spurlock as part of the Castleberry ISD family and community.
